4 Reasons to Drink More Water + 5 Tips to Make it Easier!

“You need to drink more water.” I KNOW, you hear it all the time. You get it. You’re sick of.

Bla bla bla.

I understand, I really do. I enjoy a nice cocktail too! But I need you to hear this. You can’t be a superwoman (or man, all are welcome here) if you aren’t properly taking care of yourself, and you cannot possibly take care of yourself without being proper hydrated. So today, we’re going there. I’m going to share 4 reasons to drink more water, plus I’ll be sharing five tips to help make doing so easier and tastier!

Reasons to Drink More Water

So, good ol’ H20. Why is it so important? Let me break it down for you via some pretty crucial facts. According to Everyday Health “Your body uses water in all its cells, organs, and tissues to help regulate its temperature and maintain other bodily functions. Because your body loses water through breathing, sweating, and digestion, it’s important to rehydrate by drinking fluids and eating foods that contain water.”

Basically you’re dying if you’re not hydrating. Tragic.

To put it into perspective, the body is made up of 75% water with the brain being made up of 75%, blood 92%, bones 22%, and muscles 75%. By the time you feel thirsty, your body is already dehydrated and desperately grasping for a solution.

The average adult loses about 10 cups every day so replenishing is critical.

Benefits of water

In case you need more convincing, drinking water helps to:

  • remove waste from the body
  • aid in digestion
  • manage headaches
  • assist in weight loss

Pretty much if you want to be a walking, talking, healthy, functional human being you need to drink up!

Alright, cool. Moving on.

You don’t enjoy the taste. Or you barely have time to breath in a day, much less take water breaks. Or you feel sick after drinking water. No worries, I got you boo!

Here are some things to try:

  1. Drink water with every meal (personally I drink a glass before, during, and after)
  2. Carry a water bottle (everywhere you go)
  3. Track your water intake using fun and engaging apps (we are wired for competition)
  4. Infuse with fruit (it’s tastier and has added benefits)
  5. Try drinking it cold and warm (my husband prefers warm water, warm water makes me sick)

My obsession with water is unreal. Honestly. I’m definitely not the pickiest, but there are some things I do to make drinking water more of an enjoyable process. I love branding and marketing and I kid you not when my water is more exciting and “on brand” I’m more likely to drink up. Strange I know but I never claimed to be normal.

The perfect water is a process:

STEP ONE

Fill a glass drink dispenser with water (doesn’t get more basic than that)

Not only is glass a healthier alternative to plastic, but the dispensers are typically more attractive and if you are branding obsessed like I am, it will either encourage or discourage your water intake.

STEP TWO

Cut up some lemons, juice them, place them in an ice tray, and freeze

Lemon makes the water taste better and has incredible health benefits. According to Health.com lemons are high in bioflavanoids that destroy harmful free radicals that damange blood vessels and cause inflammation. I could give you 500 more benefits of lemons but let’s keep it at that for now.

STEP THREE

While the lemon juice is freezing, cut up desired fruit that will be used to infuse your water

I prefer to keep it simple with strawberries and cucumbers, but get creative. Strawberries break down well in water giving it a strong, fruity taste. Yum!

If you are sensitive to the taste, add less. If you’re obsessive like I am, add the entire tray.

As I mentioned before, get creative! For some people, the lemon and strawberry may be too overwhelming to their taste buds. A handful of cucumbers may be refreshing enough for some, whereas another person might prefer tons of berries. You can’t go wrong. Experiment and find a flavor you genuinely enjoy drinking. In any case, keep in mind that the benefits of the water and fruit are extraordinary!
